Target high traffic areas ; Ideal for areas where other formats might not be available, such as minor roads, junctions, bus stops and mall or estate entrances.
Spread out your budget ; street poles help you target many areas affordably since you can use afew units per location as compared to other formats such as billboards where you need to invest alot of money in each location.
Easy Mobility: Street poles can be easily moved from one location to another which allows you to move the same advert to different areas.
Processes
Sourcing
Identify the street poles you want to use and take detailed pictures showing their precise location.
Determine the necessary approvals by identifying the roads authority (KeNHA, KURA, KeRA) managing the road. For roads under KURA & KeRA, application is made directly to the county government. For KeNHA, seek their approval, noting that they don’t allow street pole advertising on some major roads like Muranga Road, Thika Road, and Mombasa Road.
Submit pictures of the poles and a letter addressed to the Assistant Director, Outdoor Advertising, requesting use of the poles.
The county government of Nairobi charges an annual fee of Sh36,600 per street pole and an additional application fee of Sh5,000 per pole. These charges may vary from county to county.
Fabrication & Installation
This step involves designing, fabricating, and installing the panels onto the street poles, ensuring they meet all safety and aesthetic standards.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is required as street poles are prone to damage from weather conditions, tall vehicles, and scrap metal dealers. Ensure periodic checks and repairs are conducted to keep them in optimal condition.
Street pole Formats
Backlit: These take the form of a box illuminated from within, making them highly visible at night. This format is currently in the minority, being used in less than 2% of street pole adverts currently running with a majority of them being in malls and other private properties.
Non-lit: These rely on natural light, though they are still visible at night thanks to the streetlight illuminating them from above.
